Ten Stags Earn Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete Honors

CLAREMONT, Calif. - A total of 10 members of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team, including all five of the program's seniors, earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete distinction, the organization announced today.

In addition to the individual winners, CMS also earned ITA All-Academic Team distinction for carrying an aggregate team grade point average over a 3.2 during the 2019-20 academic year.

Individual Scholar-Athlete Award winners earned a 3.5 GPA or higher during the past academic year, and a majority of the CMS team earned that distinction. The Stags were by a perfect 4.0 this past year from senior Daniel Park, who earned the national Ann Lebedeff Leadership Award from the ITA this spring. Fellow seniors Jake Berber, Matthew Jacobs, Nikolai Parodi and Jake Williams also earned the distinction as the CMS senior class compiled a remarkable 3.90 combined GPA in 2019-20 between the five of them.

Juniors Jack Katzman and Casey Morris were also on the CMS ITA Scholar-Athlete list, as was sophomore Nic Meister and first-years Ian Freer and Michael Hao. All three CMS All-American winners this year (Parodi, Katzman, Freer) were also ITA All-Academic selections.

On the court, CMS ended an abbreviated spring season with a 14-1 record and a No. 2 national rankings. Parodi and Katzman faced each other in the ITA West Region singles championship in the fall and then both advanced to the semifinals of the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia in October.
