Jack Katzman Earns Wilson ITA National Promoter of the Year Honor

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Junior Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis player Jack Katzman earned the 2020 Wilson National Promoter of the Year Award from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, the organization announced today.

The honor is given to two student-athletes that champion the game of tennis by devoting consistent time and effort to promotional activities, and by supporting and bringing awareness to their school program and to college tennis in general. Katzman and Katharina Razum of Walsh University were the two winners this year, which are chosen from nominees from every collegiate division.

"On behalf of Wilson Sporting Goods, I would like to congratulate Jack and Katharina on receiving this national award," Kristin Eggleston, Wilson's Associate Grassroots & Promotions Manager of Racquet Sports, said. "They are both dedicated and passionate in promoting the sport of tennis in their schools and communities, and we look forward to seeing them accomplish even more as they head into their senior year."

Katzman has finished in the top five in the nation in the singles rankings in each of his first three seasons with the Stags. As a freshman in 2018, he reached the NCAA Division III national championship match in singles before finishing as the runner-up. A year ago, he helped CMS to a second-place finish at the NCAA Championships, picking up singles wins in both the semifinals against Chicago and the national championship match against Emory.

In addition to his work on the court, Katzman has been part of a CMS men's tennis contingent that has taught the sport to middle school students in Claremont as part of their physical education program, and has served as one of the representatives of the CMS Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He also represented the United States at the Pan Am Maccabi Games in the Summer of 2019, where he advanced to the finals in singles before finishing as the runner-up.

Katzman becomes the second Stag to capture a national award from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association this week. On Monday, senior Daniel Park earned the prestigious Ann Lebedeff Leadership Award endowed by Billie Jean King, for his work on and off the court over his four years.
