CMS Men's Tennis to Co-Host Annual Stag-Hen Invitational Friday and Saturday

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team will serve as the co-host of the 12th annual Stag-Hen Invitational, along with Pomona-Pitzer, which will take place on Friday and Saturday at both the Biszantz Family Tennis Center (CMS) and the Pauley Tennis Complex (Pomona-Pitzer).

The tournament field includes eight teams that are all ranked in the top 40 in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, including four in the top 12. Top-seeded Bowdoin is ranked No. 3 nationally, second-seeded CMS is ranked No. 6, third-seeded Gustavus Adolphus is at No. 12, fourth-seeded Pomona-Pitzer is currently No. 11 (seeds were based on 2018 final rankings). Sewanee is also currently in the top 20 at No. 18, while Skidmore (No. 26), Swarthmore (No. 31), and Southwestern (No. 38) place inside the top 40.

Match play begins on Friday morning, with a staggered start at Pomona-Pitzer, where the host Sagehens play at 9 a.m. against Swarthmore, with Bowdoin and Southwestern getting underway with doubles at approximately 10 a.m. Those four teams will stay at Pauley for the second round (winners meeting in the semifinals, losers meeting in the consolation bracket), where the first match will get underway at approximately 2 p.m., followed by the second one at 3 p.m.

At Biszantz, the Stags will face Skidmore at 10 a.m. on the upper courts, with Gustavus Adolphus and Sewanee meeting on the lower courts, also at 10 a.m. Those four teams will remain at Biszantz for the second round, with the winners facing off in the semifinals and the losers in the consolation bracket, both at approximately 2:30 p.m.

The second match of the day will also serve as the CMS SAAC Game of the Week, as the Student-Athlete Advisory Commitee will be giving away free CMS sunglasses to student attending (while supplies last).

Saturday will feature each team playing one match, including the championship, third-place match, fifth-place match and seventh-place match. The locations of those matches will be determined at the end of Friday's play (CMS and Pomona-Pitzer will both remain on their home courts if they are not playing each other).
