CMS Tennis Teams Ready for ITA Regionals in Claremont this Weekend

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis and women's tennis teams will both be participating in the ITA West Regionals this weekend in Claremont, beginning on Friday morning at 8 a.m.

Pomona-Pitzer will serve as the official host of the three-day event, with action taking place at both Pomona-Pitzer's Pauley Courts and CMS' Biszantz Family Tennis Center. Both CMS teams will be participating in their second event of the fall, after the men's tennis team traveled to the ITA Grass Court Invitational in Newport, Rhode Island on Sept. 15, and the women's tennis team hosted a Fall Scramble that same weekend.

The Athenas are entering the new season as defending NCAA Division III national champions after winning the program's first-ever title last spring at Biszantz. The Stags, who won the NCAA Division III national title as well in 2015 (the program's second), reached the NCAA quarterfinals a year ago after winning the West Region for the ninth year in a row, while current sophomore Jack Katzman reached the national championship match in individual singles.
