Katzman Finishes Freshman Campaign as National Runner-Up

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Jack Katzman's run through the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Singles Championships came to an end on Saturday morning in the National Championship Match. Katzman finished his freshman season as the National Runner-Up to Bowdoin's Grant Urken, who earned a straight-set victory over Katzman by a 6-3, 6-2 final.

After winning a pair of 6-4, 6-1 victories on Thursday, Katzman earned two tough, three-set victories on Friday to advance to the Championship Match. Both Katzman and Urken arrived in the Title Match unseeded, but the two played a competitive opening set. Katzman trailed Urken 4-3 midway through the set, but the Polar Bears' junior claimed the final two games to close out the first set, 6-3.

In the second set, things were tied 2-2, before Urken once again rattled off a string of games to cap off the set. This time it was four-straight games from Urken to clinch the Individual title with a 6-2 second set win.

With Katzman's appearance in the Title Match on Saturday morning, the Stags have had representation in the Individual Title Match for five-straight years.
