Men's and Women's Tennis Selected to Host NCAA Regionals

Men's Bracket Women's Bracket

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – On Monday morning, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) released the brackets for the Division III Men's and Women's Tennis National Championships. On both the men's and women's sides, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps has been chosen as a host site for Regional competition.

In addition to hosting the National Championships at the Biszantz Family Tennis center from May 21-26, the venue will host men's and women's Regional play this weekend.

Both the Athenas and Stags claimed the Automatic Qualifier from the Southern Collegiate Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) on Saturday with victories over their Sixth Street rivals, the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens. The Athenas earned a 5-0 victory while the Stags claimed a 5-1 victory.

CMS is ranked in the top-five in both the men's and women's National Rankings. The Athenas are the No. 3 team in the country and top team in the west, while the Stags are tabbed fifth in the country and are also tops in the west.

Joining the Athenas in Claremont for the regional are No. 7 Pomona-Pitzer, No. 20 Trinity (TX), No. 27 Whitman, and No. 37 UT Tyler. The Athenas earned a bye through the First Round and will play the winner of the Whitman vs. UT Tyler First Round match in the Second Round. CMS has some familiarity with the Regional field this season. In addition to defeating the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens twice this season (8-1 on Apr. 12 and 5-0 on May 5), the Athenas also faced Trinity back on Mar. 3, earning an 8-1 victory.

On the men's side, CMS will welcome No. 31 UC Santa Cruz, No. 29 UT Tyler, and No. 15 Trinity (TX) to the regional. The Stags will square off with UC Santa Cruz in their First Round match while Trinity and UT Tyler will meet in the other match. The winners will meet in the Third Round with a trip to the National Championships on the line. CMS has faced UC Santa Cruz and Trinity (TX) already this year. The Stags earned a 9-0 victory over Trinity (TX) at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships on Feb. 23 and picked-up a 6-3 victory over UC Santa Cruz on Mar. 30.
