Berber and Parodi Finish Eighth at ITA Oracle Cup

ROME, Ga. - Sophomores Jake Berber (CMC) and Nikolai Parodi (CMC) edged teammates Oscar Burney (CMC) and Julian Gordy (CMC) in a thrilling, three-set match 6-2, 5-7, 7-5 two weeks ago to claim the doubles title at the ITA West Regionals. With the victory the duo qualified for the ITA Oracle Cup this weekend in Rome, Ga. on the campus of Berry College.

Berber and Parodi dropped three hard-fought matches against some of the top doubles teams in the country to finish the tournament in eighth place.

Thursday – First Round

Jake Berber and Nikolai Parodi opened the 2017 Oracle Cup on Thursday morning by suffering a tight, 6-4, 5-7, 10-6 defeat against the No. 3 seeded team of JT Wynne and Steven Koulouris from Skidmore in doubles play. After dropping the opening set 6-4, Berber and Parodi battled back and took the second set 7-5. In the match tiebreaker, Wynn and Koulouris edged Berber and Parodi by a 10-6 score to take the match.

Despite the loss, Berber and Parodi will continue to play in the consolation bracket against the duo of Adrien Bouchet and Will Wanner from Emory. Bouchet and Wanner dropped their opening round match with a 1-6, 6-2, 10-6.

The match will take place tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 p.m. ET/ 10:30 a.m. PT.

Friday - Second Round

Just as they did on Thursday, Berber and Parodi fell into an early hole by dropping the first set in their Second Round match. Facing Adrien Bouchet and Will Wanner from Emory, the CMS duo fell in the first set 6-4 before rebounding to even the match by winning the second set 6-7 (1).

Bouchet and Wanner won the match tiebreaker 10-8 and advanced to the fifth-place match with the 6-4, 6-7 (1), 10-8 victory. Berber and Parodi will wrap up the ITA Oracle Cup with a match against Derek Hagino and Patrick Hughes from Mary Washington. Hagino and Hughes dropped their second match of the tournament on Friday against the top-seeded team from Gustavus Adolphus by a 3-6, 6-4, 11-9 final.

Berber and Parodi will take the court on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. ET/ 8:00 a.m. PT

Saturday - Seventh-Place Match

On Saturday morning, Berber and Parodi wrapped up their trip to Rome Ga. with an appearance in the seventh-place match at the ITA Oracle Cup. Berber and Parodi battled but were unable to take control of their match against Hagino and Hughes from Mary Washington. The Stag duo dropped their last match of the tournament 6-4, 6-3 to finish in eighth place in the tournament.

In the championship match, No. 4 Tyler Raclin and Jeremy Yuan from Chicago claimed the title with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Saturday over No. 2 Grant Urken and Luke Tercek (Bowdoin).
