Sports Illustrated features CMS’ Warren Wood in Faces in the Crowd

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Warren Wood (CMC), a recent graduate of Claremont McKenna College and senior on the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps national championship winning men's tennis team, is featured in the June 15, 2015 issue of Sports Illustrated's Faces in the Crowd. Since 1956, SI has featured standout amateur athletes from around the country in Faces in the Crowd. The issue is currently out in print on newsstands.

In May, playing No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, Wood helped lead CMS to the NCAA Division III national title with a win over Middlebury. He then won the NCAA D-III singles and doubles title as well, partnering with fellow senior Joe Dorn (CMC) in doubles.

This is the first time that CMS has had a student-athlete featured in Sports Illustrated since June 10, 2013, when CMS men's golfer Brad Shigezawa (CMC '14) was in Faces in the Crowd after winning the NCAA Division III national title. It is believed that former CMS softball player Hayley Schultz (CMC '15) was one of the first, if not the first CMS student-athlete to be featured in Faces in the Crowd, when she was featured on March 4, 2013.

Since Faces in the Crowd began 60 years ago, Sports Illustrated has recognized the best amateur athletes from around the country. That list includes: Tiger Woods, Herschel Walker, Andy Roddick, Kevin Garnett, Missy Franklin, Wilma Rudolph, Jack Nicklaus, Bobby Fischer, Michelle Kwan, Billie Jean King, GregLeMond, Bill Walton, Lew Alcindor (now Kareem Abdul-Jabbar), Arthur Ashe, Terry Bradshaw, Chris Evert, Steve Prefontaine, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Magic Johnson, Carl Lewis, John McEnroe, Paul Pierce, Tim Tebow, Jennie Finch, Allyson Felix, Michelle Wie and more.
