Men's Tennis defeats #9 Pomona-Pitzer to take Stag-Hen title

#2 CMS Stags Tennis won its fourth straight Stag-Hen title, defeating #9 Pomona-Pitzer 8-1 on Saturday at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. The Stags completed the tournament with an 18-0 singles record, and dropped only three total sets en route to the championship. Seniors Warren Wood (Del Mar, CA) and Joe Dorn (Washington D.C.) won at #1 doubles and #1 and #4 singles to lead CMS.

The Stags took a 2-1 advantage in doubles with wins at the top two positions. Wood and Dorn raced out to an early two-break lead and held on for an 8-5 win at #1 to put CMS up 1-0. Junior Skyler Butts (Santa Ana, CA) and Daniel Morkovine (So. - San Carlos, CA) won their second straight dual at #2, erasing a two break deficit to win seven of the final eight games. Butts and Morkovine were also singles winners at #2 and #5 singles respectively. Sophomore Max Macey (Wilton, CT) improved to 6-0 in dual matches with his convincing 6-1, 6-0 victory at #6 singles, which clinched the title for the Stags.

CMS wins its sixth Stag-Hen title in the tournament's eight year history. This was the first Stag-Hen tournament match ever contested between CMS and Pomona-Pitzer. CMS improves to 8-0 overall and travels to Philadelphia and Washington D.C. this week. The Stags play a double-header Tuesday at Haverford and Swarthmore, then travel to Baltimore to play at Johns Hopkins on Friday. They return to Philadelphia next Saturday to compete against Georgetown and either Penn or Temple.
