Stags earn top seed with two more SCIAC wins
#1 CMS Stags Tennis closed conference play on Saturday with shut out wins at #38 Chapman and at home against Occidental. CMS improves to 7-0 in SCIAC and has earned the top seed in the conference tournament hosted by Caltech May 1-2.
The Stags faced little resistance in doubles all day, with the exception of Warren Wood's (Sr. Capt - Del Mar, CA) and Joe Dorn's (Sr. - Washington D.C.) come from behind win at #1 against Chapman. The West Region's top doubles team needed to win the final five games of their pro-set to recover from a 6-3 deficit. They are now 14-2 on the season.
Senior Nik Marino (San Diego, CA) and Lestter Yeh (Jr. - Arcadia, CA) paired to win at #3 doubles against Chapman, before winning again with different partners against Occidental in the afternoon. Marino paired with junior Bryan Mehall (Snowmass Village, CO) at #2, while Yeh partnered sophomore Glenn Hull (Brookings, OR) at #3. Marino added a milestone singles win against Chapman, earning the 100th of his career, and then notched his 101st at #1 singles against Oxy in the afternoon.
CMS is now 23-2 overall and will host #3 (NAIA) Vanguard on Tuesday at 4:00 PM at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.
