Men's tennis blanks Swarthmore, Bowdoin to advance to Stag-Hen final

CMS Stags Tennis earned convincing 9-0 wins over Swarthmore and #13 Bowdoin on Friday to set up a championship match showdown with top-ranked Washington University in St. Louis in the Stag-Hen Invitational. Warren Wood (Jr. - Del Mar, CA), Skyler Butts (So. - Santa Ana, CA) and Zhenya Pereverzin (Sr. - Clackamas, OR) all won two singles and two doubles matches for CMS.

The Stags continued their dominant doubles play sweeping all three positions in both dual matches on Friday. Wood and Pereverzin successfully paired together for the first time at #1 against Swarthmore, and then returned to their regular partners against Bowdoin. Wood and Joe Dorn (Jr. - Washington D.C.) won their fifth straight as a team, but not without drama. The Stags' #1 pair saw a 7-1 lead disappear, but held on to win in a tie-break to give CMS a 3-0 lead.

Dorn's first set tie-break win over Bowdoin #2 Luke Trinka was the Stags' sixteenth winning tie-break in eighteen tries this season. Dorn's straight set victory over the 6th ranked singles player in the nation extends his unbeaten streak to six matches. Junior Nik Marino (San Diego, CA) and freshman Daniel Morkovine (San Carlos, CA) also won singles tie-breaks on the day. CMS only dropped one set in twelve matches against the two eastern schools.

CMS faces #1 ranked Washington University in St. Louis in the championship match on Saturday at 9:30 AM. Wash U were 6-3 winners over #11 Carnegie Mellon in the quarterfinals, then 6-3 winners over #7 Emory in the semifinals.
