CMS Men's Swimming and Diving Ranked No. 8 Heading into NCAA Championships

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team, which is sending 10 student-athletes to the NCAA Division III Championships in two weeks, will head to nationals ranked No. 8 in the nation, after the final pre-championship poll was released today.

Kenyon took over the top spot in the latest poll, followed by Emory and Williams, which jumped from No. 10 to No. 3 after the NESCAC Championships. Johns Hopkins, Denison, MIT and Chicago rank 3-7, with WashU at No. 9 and NYU at No. 10 rounding out the top 10 behind CMS.

The Stags won their second straight SCIAC Championship in dominant fashion two weeks ago, defeating Pomona-Pitzer by 143 points (two years ago, the margin was only 14 points). CMS won 13 events over the week, with Nick Tekieli taking three individual ones, Anderson Breazeale, Frank Applebaum and Lucas Lang each winning two, and Marco Conati winning one. The Stags also were victorious in three relays over the four-day event.

The five individual champions for CMS all qualified for nationals, with Applebaum entering as the top seed in the 200 fly. Theo Johnson, Dylan Krueger, Walter Limm and Eric Workman earned qualifications in relays, while Cyrus Gaylord became the 10th Stag to qualify last weekend at the NCAA Diving Regional Qualifiers at Trinity University.

The NCAA Division III Championships will be held at IUPUI in Indianapolis, Indiana from March 16-19. To view the complete poll, head to the following link:
