CMS Men's Swimming and Diving Falls to No. 9 Chicago, No. 10 WashU in Tri-Meet

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team faced two top 10 teams in a tri-meet at the University of Chicago on Saturday, falling to No. 9 Chicago and No. 10 Washington University (Saint Louis).

The Stags lost narrowly to Chicago by a 156-132 final, while WashU took convincing wins over both of its opponents, including a 199-95 win over CMS. 

Freshman Michael Lee took first place in the initial individual competition, finishing with a time of 9:38.52 in the 1000 free to win by just under two full seconds. Sophomore Kyle Fendorf added a fifth-place finish as well in just over 10 minutes (10:03.07), while senior Ben Culberson was right behind in sixth with a 10:03.35. 

Senior Aaron Lutzker earned an individual title in the 200 breast with a 2:06.11, winning a tight race to the wall against Kevin Van Cleave of WashU (2:06.76), 

Sophomore Andreas Roeseler was second in the 200 free with a 1:43.82, finishing just .37 behind Taye Baldinazzzo of Chicago in first. Senior John Everett took third in the 200 fly in a 1:54.27, while Roeseler finished in third in the 50 free with a 21.45, and third in the 100 free with a 47.39. Sophomore Marco Conati was right behind him in the 100 with a 47.58. Conati also added a third-place finish in the 100 fly. 

Junior Henry Limm had a strong second-place showing in the 400 IM, touching the wall in 4:07.91, just .07 in front of Jordan Wheeler of WashU. The 200 free relay team of Daniel Hayon, Christian Simon, Conati and Roeseler capped off the meet with a third-place finish in 1:25.78

CMS will be back in action on Saturday, when it returns to Axelrood Pool for its first SCIAC meet, hosting Chapman at 10 a.m.
