Hollimon Leads Stags to 25th-Place Finish at Nationals
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Three members of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team competed in the 2018 NCAA National Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. this week. The Stags earned 27 team points during the week to finish in a tie for 25th place nationally. Kendall Hollimon (CMC) led the Stags all week long, earning a pair of All-American honors with his performances in the Three- and One-Meter diving competitions. Hollimon finished in fourth-place on the three-meter board (518.45 points) and a seventh-place finish on the one-meter board (448.25 points) to account for all 27 of the Stags' team points in the Championships.
Day Four Update - March 24, 2018
Sam Willett (CMC) headlined the Stags' effort on the final day of the National Championships in the 200 Back. Willett finished in 26th-place in the 200 Back in a time of 1:50.99. CMS finished the National Championship in 25th place with 27 total team points.
Day Three Update – March 23, 2018
Kendall Hollimon wrapped up his 2018 National Championships with his second All-American honor of the week with a seventh-place finish in the one-meter diving competition with a score of 443.55 in the finals. Hollimon's finish comes on the heels of a fourth-place finish in three-meter diving earlier this week. The All-American accolade is the third of Hollimon's career and is an 11-spot improvement over his 18th-place finish (402.80 points) on the one-meter board in the 2017 National Championship.
Both Henry Limm (HMC) and Sam Willett (CMC) were in action on Friday, turning in personal best and top-30 marks in the 200 Fly and 100 Breast, respectively. Limm recorded a time of 1:52.02, finishing in 26th-place in the 200 Fly while Willet placed 30th in the 100 Breast with a mark of 57.58.
With three of the four days of the National Championship complete, the Stags sit in 19th-place in the team standings with 27 total points. The Stags will complete the Championships on Saturday with Willett and Limm competing in the 200 Back and 200 Breast, respectively.
Day Two Update - March 22, 2018
Henry Limm jumped into the pool for the first time at a National Championship meet on Thursday morning in the 400 IM Prelims. The Stags sophomore turned in a time of 4:03.06 to finish in 25th place.
Thanks to Kendall Hollimon's 15 points in Wednesday's three-meter diving competition, the Stags currently sit in 27th place in the team standings. All three Stags in Indianapolis will be in action on Friday, Limm will compete in the 200 Fly, Sam Willett will race in the 100 Breast, and Hollimon will finish up his National Championship slate in the one-meter diving competition. The prelim session begins at 10:00 a.m. ET/7:00 a.m. PT and the finals for all three events will occur in the evening session set to begin at 6:00 p.m. ET/3:00 p.m. PT.
Day One Update – March 21, 2018
Kendall Hollimon highlighted the effort for the Stags on Day One of the 2018 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving National Championships, earning All-American honors in the three-meter diving competition. Hollimon matched his fourth-place finish from last season with 518.45 points in the Finals.
Sam Willett was also in action on Day One of the Championships for the Stags. Willett competed in the third event of the day, finishing 27th in the 200 IM with a time of 1:52.49. He started out his race with a 24.45 split in the butterfly, before recording legs of 27.94 and 32.28 in the back and breast, respectively. He anchored his race with a 27.82 time in the free across his final 50 yards to earn place 27th in the 48-swimmer field.
As mentioned, Hollimon earned his second-straight All-American honor in the three-meter diving competition with his fourth-place finish on Wednesday. In the morning, Hollimon qualified third for the 16-diver final with a score of 507.75. While Hollimon upped his point-total to 518.45 in the Finals, Sam Hoyt of Union jumped him in the standings and the Stags' sophomore finished in fourth-place. Heath Ogawa (Lake Forest) won the event with a score of 573.60 in the finals. New York University's Connor Brisson finished second (553.00 points) and Westminster's Connor May (502.10) placed behind Hollimon to round out the top five.
Hollimon's efforts earned the first team points for the Stags, picking up 15 points with the fourth-place finish. After Day One, CMS is tied for 16th place with Wisconsin - Eau Claire who also has 15 team points.
The National Championships continue tomorrow with Henry Limm getting into the pool for the first time in the 400 IM. Limm is the eighth-ranked swimmer in the event with a seed time of 3:55.61. Prelims for the event will take place in the morning session. The session begins at 10:00 a.m. ET/7:00 a.m. PT and the men's 400 IM will be the third event on the docket for the day.
