Stags Open 2018 with Distance Meet at Cal Baptist

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – After more than a month without competition, the No. 9 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team was back in the pool on Friday afternoon taking on Division II No. 8 Cal Baptist. While the Lancers defeated the Stags 174-69, CMS had a number of strong showings on the afternoon.

The Stags won a pair of events with Kendall Hollimon (CMC) taking the top spot in the three-meter diving competition. Hollimon scored a 412.42 in the event to win by 53.32 points.

In addition to his first-place finish in three-meter diving, Hollimon took second in the one-meter competition with 311.17 points.

In the very next event, John Everett (CMC) and Henry Limm (HMC) went one-two in the 300 Fly. Everett touched in a time of 3:01.68 to win the event with Limm finishing right behind him in a time of 3:03.41.

Limm doubled up on his second-place finish in the 300 Fly with a runner-up placement in the 300 Breast with a time of 3:20.06. Behind Limm was Aaron Lutzker (HMC), who finished the 300 Breast in 3:22.76 to take third in the race. Lutzker was the highest finisher for CMS in the 300 IM as well, placing third in a time of 3:03.08.

The Stags took two of the top three spots in the 300 Back when juniors Jackson Crewe (HMC) and John Jeang (HMC) finished second and third, respectively. Crewe touched in 3:04.01 and Jeang finished the race in 3:12.56.

The Stags finished in the top three in both of the relays. In the 500 Medley Relay, the team of Sam Willett (CMC), Limm, Marco Conati (HMC), and Patricio Madero (CMC) placed third in a time of 4:43.20, less than seven seconds behind the first-place team.

Then in the final event of the day, CMS had relay teams finish second and third in the 500 Free Relay. Madero, Conati, Andreas Roeseler (HMC), and Ben Culberson (CMC) touched in 4:14.82 to take second while the team of Crewe, Willett, William Meng (HMC), and Zachary Goland (HMC) took third in 4:18.61.

The Stags will be back in the pool on Wednesday when they host Whitman at 2:00 p.m. in Axelrood Pool.
