No. 14 Stags Prove Too Much For Leopards, Poets

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The No. 14 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team hosted the Whittier Poets and La Verne Leopards on Saturday morning in Axelrood Pool. The Stags handled their SCIAC foes, with a 215-72 victory over Whittier and a 231-50 win over La Verne.

For the second time this season, Kendall Hollimon (CMC) swept the diving completions, winning the one and three meter contests with scores of 300.30 and 354.95 respectively. Competing in his first diving competition, Scott Montague (HMC) placed second in the three meter and third in the one meter.

Hollimon was one of three individuals that claimed multiple events on Saturday. Sophomores Sam Willett (CMC) and Henry Limm (HMC) each won a pair of events as well. Limm took the 200 fly in a time of 1:53.49 with CMC claiming the top three finishers in the event. Limm also won the 500 free (4:45.61), seven seconds ahead of his closest competitor.

Willett took the 100 back in a time of 52.77 and claimed the 200 breast by just barely beating teammate William Meng (HMC) to the wall. Willett finished in 2:12.27, just three one hundredths of a second ahead of Meng (2:12.27).

Other Stags to win events included Andreas Roeseler (HMC) in the 200 free (1:44.79), Marco Conati (HMC) in the 100 free (47.49), Aaron Lutzker (HMC) in the 200 back (1:56.59), and Jackson Crewe (HMC) in the 200 IM (1:59.58).

The Stags also dominated the two relays that were run on Saturday. First, CMS won the 200 Medley Relay with the team of Crewe, Grant Murray (HMC), Dave Makhervaks (HMC), and Roeseler in a time of 1:36.75. The Stags' B team also finished second in that race. Later in the meet, CMS took the top three spots in the 400 free relay. The team of Makhervaks, Madero, Daniel Hayon (CMC), and Roeseler led the way in a time of 3:10.90.

The Stags will be back in action next Saturday when they host Redlands. The diving competition will begin at 10:00 a.m. while swimming will get underway at 11:00 a.m.
