Williams named CollegeSwimming National Athlete of the Week

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Senior Matthew Williams (CMC) earned CollegeSwimming's National Swimmer of the Week for NCAA Division III after another undefeated weekend. Williams led the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team to the 153-68 and 170-40 victory over Cal Lutheran and Caltech, respectively. This is the first time Williams has been the recipient of this award.

Williams won all three of his races in the meet. In the 200-yard freestyle, he broke into the program's top-10 list and set a pool record at 1:41.23. Six events later, he won the 100-yard butterfly, beating a teammate by 0.60 seconds. In the final event of the day, Williams teamed up with William Meng (HMC), Jackson Crewe (HMC) and Graham Spurzem (CMC) to take the 200-yard freestyle relay with the time of 1:28.87.

For his performance over the weeked, Williams also garnered the men's swim and dive Athlete of the Week honors from the SCIAC.
