Several first-timers highlight Scholar All-America team selections for Stags and Athenas

Last season the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps swimming & diving teams had an impressive nine individuals on the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America team.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletics department named Matthew Williams (CMC ’17) and Kris Brackmann (CMC ’17) the 2017 CMS Athletes of the Year in honor of their contributions to the program this past academic year.

After the completion of winter sports, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps sits at 16th nationally in the Division III Learfield Directors' Cup, as released on March 30. All four winter teams placed in the top-25 in NCAA postseason competition. CMS is additionally the highest ranked program from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps swimming and diving teams wrapped up the 2017 National Championship with the Athenas in 21st and the Stags finishing 14th. CMS was the highest-finishing program from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at the meet.

Clutch performances on the third day of the Division III NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships earned points for both the men’s and women’s teams for Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The Athenas are in 19th place at 36 points while the Stags sit in 14th with 57 points.

Williams’ 100 fly and Athenas’ 400 medley relay earn points at NCAA Champs

Swimmers in two events qualified from the morning session to compete in the finals on the second day of the NCAA Championships for men’s and women’s swimming and diving. Senior Matthew Williams (CMC) placed third in the 100-yard butterfly (47.80) with a new CMS record. Then, the women’s 400-yard medley relay of freshmen Jocelyn Crawford (CMC) and Claire Bacon-Brenes (SC) with seniors Stephanie Doi (CMC) and Kelly Ngo (CMC) bested their time from the SCIAC Championships and placed 11th at 3:47.47 to close out the evening.

Women’s 200 medley relay places 11th at Nationals

March 15, 2017

After qualifying for the finals with a 1:44.34, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s 200-yard medley relay team placed 11th with a time of 1:43.92 in the NCAA National Championships. With the win, the Athenas earned 12 points toward the team total. CMS swam in two relays and five individual events on Wednesday.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps swimming and diving program heads into the NCAA Championships as one of only three teams in the nation with individual, relay and diving qualifiers for both men and women. Five stags and six Athenas will make the trip to Shenandoah, Texas for the meet held March 15-18.

Freshman Kendall Hollimon (CMC) and junior Maia Presti (SC) qualified for the NCAA Championships in Shenandoah, Texas March 15-18 after competing in the NCAA Region 2 Diving Championships over the weekend.
