Results in the classroom earn Athenas and Stags Scholar All-America Team honors

NORFOLK, Va. – The reigning conference champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps swimming and diving teams have had a great deal of success in and out of the pool over the years. The list of accolades continues to grow as both the Stags and the Athenas were recognized as Scholar All-America Teams by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) in an announcement on Jan. 27. The CMS programs comprise two of the 547 teams represented from 354 colleges and universities across the country in different divisions.

The award recognizes teams whose grade-point average totaled 3.0 or higher during the 2015 Fall semester. The men's team compiled a GPA of 3.27, and the women's average was 3.38 during that time period.

The Athenas and Stags this season are both 6-0 in SCIAC dual meets, with two conference meets left on the schedule before the SCIAC Championships. CMS hosts La Verne on Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. for Senior Day, and then on Feb. 6, CMS competes at Pomona-Pitzer. The SCIAC Championships are scheduled from Feb. 18-21 at La Mirada Splash. Last season at the SCIAC Championships, the Athenas won top team honors for the 13th consecutive year and 17th time overall, while the Stags clinched their eighth-straight title and 35th conference championship in program history.
