Both men’s & women’s swim & dive teams on top after first day at SCIAC Championships

WHITTIER, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's and women's swimming and diving teams have early leads after the first day of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships. The men have 120 points, just ahead of Pomona-Pitzer with 116, while the women earned 176 points so far, with the next best at 146 (Redlands). All four of CMS' relay teams recorded times that merit NCAA Championships consideration.

The CMS women won the 200 medley relay with an NCAA 'B' cut with a time of 1:44.44. The team was made up of Kelly NgoStephanie DoiLorea Gwo and LillyBelle Deer and was about a second and a half faster than the next relay team to touch the wall at 1:46.05

The Stags took the men's 200 medley relay with another NCAA 'B' cut time and SCIAC Meet Record time of 1:30.59. The team was comprised of Matthew WilliamsZach AllevaPatrick Shultz and Joseph Hinton.

In the women's 800 freestyle relay, second place went to the CMS quartet of Molly LoftusLauren RosenbergerNatalie Green and Deer with a combined 7:41.73 also earning an NCAA 'B' cut time,

The final swimming event was the men's 800 free relay featuring Graham Spurzem, Alex Poltash, Marc Blumberg and Cameron Whiting as the Stags swam it in 6:44.21, five and a half seconds faster than the next team.

In the women's one-meter diving event, Maia Presti broke the SCIAC and meet records en route to her first place finish. Also surpassing the previous SCIAC and meet record of 454.60 was teammate Carli Lessard. Both Presti and Lessard easily qualified for the 2015 NCAA Regionals at Trinity University (San Antonio, TX) on Feb. 27-28.

Tomorrow at the SCIAC Championships features the men's 3-meter diving and four men's and women's swimming events: 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle and the 200 freestyle relay.
