Stevick shatters SCIAC 3M diving record on day one of SCIAC Championships

James Stevick broke the CMS and SCIAC records for 3 meter diving Thursday on the opening night of the SCIAC Swimming & Diving Championships.  His score of 572.30 broke the old SCIAC record, set in 2007, by 34.05 points.  He broke his own CMS record, set in 2012, by 40.10 points. Stevick also earned his third straight title on 3 meter.

Men's 3m diving was the only final on day one.  Stevick, who was second after the prelims with a score of 474.10, was the only Stag to compete in the final.  Also scoring points for the Stags by finishing between 10th and 18th in the prelims were Jay Kabellis, who finished 11th with a score of 328.85, and Julian Laguisma, who finished 12th with a score of 313.15.

The men's 1 meter diving prelims are tomorrow after the morning swimming preliminaries and the 1 meter final is after Saturday evening's swimming finals.

The women had their preliminary round in 1 meter diving on Thursday.  The top nine divers in the preliminaries will compete in the 1m diving finals which is the final event in Friday evening's program.  Carli Lessard and Mary Lynn Clark will both be that final as they finished fifth (383.20) and seventh (378.45) respectively.  Chavi Checker and Alexandra Neitz both earned points for the Athenas by finishing between 10th and 18th.  Checker was 10th with a score of 317.25 and Neitz was 17th with a score of 278.50.

The swimming events get under way tomorrow morning at 9:00 am with preliminaries in the 500 free, 200 individual medley and 50 free.  The evening session begins at 5:00 pm with finals of the morning prelim events along with the 200 free and 400 medley relays.
