Williams named SCIAC Athlete of the Week

PASADENA, Calif. – The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) named Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimmer Matthew Williams as the SCIAC Male Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 3-9.

Williams won two individual events and was on a winning relay as CMS won at Pomona-Pitzer 211-86 to finish 8-0 in SCIAC. He won the 100 backstroke in a CMS record time of 49.54. The time was also a pool record, an NCAA 'B' cut and missed the SCIAC record by just 0.10. He won the 200 back by almost four seconds in a time of 1:52.50 which is also an NCAA 'B' cut. He led off the winning 200 medley relay with a CMS record 50 back split of 23.30. The relay time of 1:33.70 was a pool record. His leadoff leg (47.29) of the 400 free relay would have won the open 100 free.
