A Pair Of CMS Records Fall On First Day Of NCAA Championships
SHENANDOAH, Texas – After the first day of competition at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming & diving team sits in 12th place in the 26-team field with 12 points. Along the way, CMS schools records were set in the 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relay.
In the 500 free preliminaries, sophomore Cameron Whiting swam a CMS record time of 4:31.99 which placed him in 17th place. Andrew Chevalier of Kenyon finished in first with a preliminary time of 4:27.37. Sophomore Marc Blumberg finished three spots behind Whiting with a time of 4:32.98.
The 200 medley relay team of senior Blake Weber, senior Brad Perfect, sophomore Patrick Shultz and freshman Joseph Hinton finished in 10th place with a CMS record time of 1:31.15, just ahead of SCIAC rival Redlands who touched the wall at 1:31.18. The Stags moved up from 14th to 10th after the finals in the event.
In the 50-yard freestyle preliminaries, freshman Alex Poltash and Hinton finished in 18th and 19th, respectively, with times roughly four-tenths of a second short of the CMS record time of 20:23.
