Both Athenas And Stags Extend Lead At Day Two Of SCIAC Championships

LA MIRADA, Calif – Day two is in the books at the SCIAC Swimming & Diving & Championships at Splash! La Mirada and both the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's and men's swimming & diving teams hold a lead with one day to go.  The Athenas opened up a 659 to 519 lead over Pomona-Pitzer while the Stags extended their lead over Redlands 801-491.

The Stags won six SCIAC titles on the day out of eight total events.  Both relay teams for CMS got wins on Monday as the team of Blake Weber, Brad Perfect, Patrick Shultz and Joseph Hinton won the 200-yard medley relay final with a time of 1:31.27 while the 800-yard freestyle relay team of Devin Bowers, Marc Blumberg, Cameron Whiting and Weber finished in first with a time of 6:43.53. Both teams also set SCIAC Championship records in their respective events.

Individual winners for the Stags were James Stevick who captured the 3-meter diving championship a day after winning the 3-meter boards along with Conrad Shabb (400-yard individual medley), Whiting (200-yard freestyle) and Weber (100-yard backstroke).

The Athenas had a strong day as well extending their lead over rival Pomona-Pitzer with one first place finish and several second place finishes. Michele Kee won the SCIAC title in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.22. The 200-yard medley relay team of Elsa Cheng, Maddy Gebhard, Erin MacLean and Helen Liu finished in second behind Pomona-Pitzer while LillyBelle Deer placed in second in the 200 free with a time of 1:54.20.

On the 1-meter boards, diver Carmen Lundell finished with a score of 411.15, just behind Jessica Robson of Occidental for second place. Robson won the SCIAC title with a score of 412.85.
