Three Qualify For Diving Finals

The 2013 SCIAC Swimming and Diving Championships opened with the diving preliminaries over the weekend at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center.  One varsity record was set, while all five CMS divers put themselves in position to score points in the championships.

James Stevick set the Stag 11-dive varsity record on the 1-meter springboard.  Stevick's score of 495.57 eclipsed Mark Emanuel's 2006 CMS record of 489.75 and makes Stevick the top seed going into finals.  Teammate Julian Laguisma also made the finals, placing 8th with 276.45 points.  Jay Kabellis finished ninth, just behind Laguisma with a six-dive score of 166.35.

Those positions were repeated on the 3-meter board, as Stevick, Laguisma, and Kabellis finished first, eighth and ninth, with scores of 465.00, 237.00 and 141.70, respectively.

Athena senior, Carmen Lundell, will be the women's meet second seed on both boards, after a pair of strong efforts.  Lundell's prelim mark of 418.41 on the 3-meter board is a personal record and ranks second on CMS's all time top 10 list.  Lundell's 372.06 on the 1-meter board also positions her second going into the finals.

Fellow senior, Jackie Olmos-Silverman, concluded her CMS career with a pair of consolation finals finishes.  Olmos-Silverman placed 16th on the 1-meter board and set a personal record in placing 12th on the 3-meter board.

The top 8 finishers in each event will compete in the SCIAC finals on Sunday and Monday, February 17 and 18 at La Mirada Splash!
