CMS Dominates Whittier

CMS Dominates Whittier

The CMS Stag and Athena swimmers and divers won 25 of 26 events in SCIAC dual meet action at home versus the Whittier College Poets on Saturday, January 7.  The Athenas won 185-51, while the Stags' tally was 182-49.

"We're in the middle of our winter Training Camp, so there were some tired bodies out there," said Coach Charlie Griffiths. "But when your event is called, you need to be ready to race, so we're happy to start 2012 with a strong meet."

Juniors Carmen Lundell and Andrew Fevery set the tone by sweeping the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions for CMS.  Likewise, three swimmers won two individual events each.  First-year swimmers LillyBelle Deer and Alex Mendoza won the women's and men's 200 yard freestyle and 500 yard freestyle events.  Senior Emma Jones nabbed the 50 and 100 yard sprints for the Athenas.

Seven additional Stags won individual events, highlighted by Brett Berger's 9:55.79 in the 1000 yard freestyle, which missed a 15-year old Axelrood Pool record by less than one second.  The Athenas produced four more individual winners.  CMS swept first and second in all four relay events.

CMS will be back in action on Saturday, January 14 at the University of La Verne for a SCIAC dual meet versus the Leopards. Diving is slated to begin at 9:30 a.m. and the swimming competition will start at 11:00 at the Flores Park Pool in La Verne.
