CMS Men's Soccer Dominates Chapman for 4-0 SCIAC Win

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Jake Allmon broke a scoreless tie with a goal late in the first half, and then assisted on two Eric Sanchez goals just over a minute apart in the second half, as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team took a 4-0 win over Chapman on Wednesday evening at Pritzlaff Field.

Both teams came in at 1-0-1 in SCIAC, but the Stags were able to get the win to stay undefeated and move to 2-0-1 in conference play, while Chapman suffers its first loss and falls to 3-1-3 overall and 1-1-1 in the league.

CMS broke the tie with 8:51 left in the first half, when Walsh Kern carried the ball over midfield and played a long diagonal ball to Jake Allmon making a run up the right side behind the Chapman defense. Allmon settled and took a dribble, and let fly from just outside the box, tucking it inside the left post to give CMS a 1-0 lead.

The Stags then doubled their lead early in the second half, when John Laidlaw scored his first collegiate goal off a long ball from Chase Keir, burying a shot from the top of the 18 just under the crossbar.

Allmon and Sanchez then connected for two highlight reel goals, with the duo working a give-and-go up the right side, resulting in a goal from Sanchez from the center of the penalty area. Just 1:01 later, Allmon picked out Sanchez at the top of the 18, and he had a one-touch spin move past a Chapman defender and into the center of the penalty area, where he finished for his second goal in a span of 61 seconds.

CMS almost tacked on another one, But Trevor Anderson hit the crossbar from 25 yards out with a bid to make it 5-0.

Daniel Kotkosky started in goal and had three saves to get the win, while Henry Otte added a save in relief to help finish off the shutout.

CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it travels to Occidental for a 7 p.m. contest.
