CMS Men's Soccer Wins Sixth Straight, Fends Off Tigers in 3-1 Victory

CLAREMONT, Calif - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team overcame an early 1-0 deficit to defeat the Occidental Tigers 3-1 on Saturday night at Pritzlaff Field.

Both teams battled back and forth, but it was the Stags who took control of the second half and never looked back. With the win, CMC improved to 6-1-1 and an 4-0 unblemished record in SCIAC play. Occidental fell to 2-7 on the season.

The Tigers took a 1-0 advantage after Joey Schwartz scored the first goal of the game just 11:23 into the first half. However, CMC quickly responded with a score of their own after Bryan Uribe found a loose ball and was able to perfectly set up Samay Rahim for the goal in the 41st minute. Rahim took control of the ball and sent a strike into the back of the net from center about 15 yards away to tie the game at 1-1.

In the second half, it was CMC who applied the pressure early and often, leading to the Stags outscoring the Tigers 2-0 while being the aggressors. Walsh Kern took advantage of a loose ball after Chase Keir threw the ball into play to give CMC a 2-1 lead with the goal in the 54th minute.

CMC and Occidental both finished with six corner kicks on the night, but Eduardo De Anda who constantly beat the Tigers offensive weapons to the ball to earn the win in goal and improve to 6-0-1 this year and 15-1-2 in his career.

Eric Sanchez helped give the Stags insurance late in second half by carrying the ball down to the end line and sending a hard ball into the box, where it then deflected off an Occidential defender for an own goal to give CMS a commanding 3-1 lead in the 77th minute.

CMS will be back in action on Wednesday night looking to grab their seventh consecutive win when they host the Whittier Poets at 7:00 p.m.
