Jacob Mays Earns Second-Team Academic All-America Honors

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Claremont-Mudd-Scripps sophomore goalie Jacob Mays earned an NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Second-Team Academic All-America selection from the College Sports Information Directors of America, the organization announced this morning.

Mays has had a spectacular career with the Stags over his first two seasons, helping CMS to a combined 31-6-3 record, including back-to-back SCIAC regular season titles. He has 20 shutouts in 29 career starts, including one in the SCIAC Semifinals against Occidental and one in the NCAA Second Round against Trinity.

A year ago as a freshman, he led the entire country in goals against average at 0.22, and in shutouts with 15 while earning first-team All-SCIAC honors. His career stats currently include a 22-4-2 record, an 0.37 goals against average, and an .859 save percentage. 

In the classroom, Mays has gotten off to an equally successful start to his college career, compiling a 4.0 GPA as a biophysics major at Claremont McKenna, while earning SCIAC All-Academic Team honors last year. 

CMS men's soccer finished the season with a 16-4-2 record, advancing to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1985. The Stags also won both the SCIAC regular season and postseason titles in the same year for the first time since the league introduced the postseason tournament in 2006.
