William Barton Earns SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week Honor for CMS Men's Soccer

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sophomore forward William Barton was named the SCIAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games through Sunday, Nov. 3, the league office announced today.

Barton earned the honor after recording both game-winning goals for CMS in a pair of wins last week which secured the second straight outright regular season SCIAC title for the Stags. His big goal came in the second overtime of a 2-1 overtime win at Whittier in a battle of teams that came into the contest tied for first in the league standings, blasting in a shot from just outside the top of the 18 for a golden goal.

On Saturday, Barton helped give CMS an early leg up when he headed in a goal in the sixth minute of an eventual 4-0 win over Caltech, which enabled the Stags to finish in first place by themselves. The goal was his seventh of the season, highest on the team.

Barton's award marks the fifth time the Stags have been honored by the SCIAC this season. Fellow sophomore Ethan Tyng has twice been named the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week, while senior forward Cole Smith also earned it once. First-year defender Ben Pelz, meanwhile, earned the Defensive Player of the Week Award after coming up with a key goal against Redlands.

CMS will be back in action on Wednesday night when it hosts the SCIAC Tournament, facing Occidental at 7 p.m. at Pritzlaff Field.
