Kevin Proudfoot Becomes Fourth CMS Men's Soccer Player to Earn SCIAC Defensive Player of Week

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sophomore center back Kevin Proudfoot (HMC '21) became the fourth different Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer player to earn the SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week Award this season, it was announced today by the conference office.

Proudfoot earned the honor this week for helping CMS move back into a tie for first place in the SCIAC with a 2-0 shutout win over Pomona-Pitzer. In addition to playing a key role in organizing the defense from his center back position, he also preserved the shutout when he scrambled back into an empty net after a save from freshman goalie Jacob Mays, and cleared a sure Sagehen goal off the line in the 81st minute.

Mays has also earned the SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week honor this season, along with junior center back Adam Singer and sophomore outside back William Birchard. Singer earned his honor after the first meeting with Pomona-Pitzer, which was also a 2-0 win, in which the Stags held the Sagehens to only two shot attempts, neither of which were on net.

With the win this Saturday, CMS is now 8-2 in the SCIAC, tying it for first place with Redlands with two weeks left in the regular season. The Stags travel to Cal Lutheran on Wednesday and Whittier on Saturday, before returning home on Wednesday, Oct. 24 to face Redlands in a game that could potentially be a battle for the SCIAC title and the top seed in the conference tournament.
