Bulldogs Blank Stags in SCIAC Tilt

REDLANDS, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team was shutout against the University of Redlands Bulldogs 3-0 on Saturday night. The Bulldogs outshot the Stags 15-6 in the match and put 10 shots on goal against three for CMS.

The Bulldogs struck early with a tally in the eighth minute before back-to-back strikes just over a minute apart early in the second-half put the match away. Things would get a little testy late, with a total of seven yellow cards coming out in the match.

In the eighth minute, Redlands sent a through ball past the CMS backline and a cross found the head Casey ChubbFertal for the first goal of the night. The Bulldogs kept the pressure up, testing CMS keeper Connor Gaskin (CMC) with shots in the 10th, 22nd, 32nd, 34th, and 43rd minutes, but Gaskin turned them aside and kept it a 1-0 match at the half.

Through the first 45 minutes, Gaskin made six saves while the Stags had yet to put a shot on goal.

CMS would not have to wait long in the second-half to have their first shot on frame. In the 48th minute, William Birchard (CMC) put a strike on frame, but it was turned away.

Just as they did in the opening half, the first shot from Redlands in the second-half found the back of the net in the 52nd minute. Just over a minute later, the Bulldogs pushed their lead to three goals with a tally from Sergio Valencia. Chase Boone found Valencia with a through ball and Valencia slotted a shot into the left side of the goal.

Brandon Theodorou (HMC) and Isaiah Alba (CMC) put shots on goal in the 69th and 90th minutes, respectively, but they were both saved by the Redlands keeper and the Bulldogs held on for the 3-0 victory.

CMS will next take the pitch on Wednesday night when they host Caltech at 7:00 p.m.
