Big road win for Stags at Occidental

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team notched an important win on the road with the 2-0 shutout victory of Occidental on Saturday night. CMS improves to 7-4-1 in SCIAC play, holding onto the third place position in conference standings.

The Stags got on the board early with a goal by freshman Adam Singer (CMC) while senior Elijah Lichtenberg (CMC) earned his fifth assist on the year, serving the ball in from a corner kick in the 16th minute.

Just seven minutes later, Lichtenberg set up another corner and senior Mehron Abdi (CMC) finished for his sixth goal of the season on the ensuing play. Midfielders freshman Tyler Chen (CMC) and sophomore Aidan Johnson (CMC) played tough in the center and created opportunities for Abdi throughout the game. Abdi led with five shots, three of which were on target.

Then, CMS played 67 minutes of shutout defense to end the game with the 2-0 score. The Stags' back line of Lichtenbereg, Jacob Skoll (CMC), Cole Mora (CMC) and Singer worked together to keep the Tigers out of striking distance. The Tigers only managed two shots on goal on the night as junior Daniel Cui (CMC) recorded his third clean sheet this year.

The Stags host Chapman (9-4-2, 6-4-2 SCIAC) on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. on Pritzlaff Field.
