Two goal win for Stags over Leopards

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team remains undefeated in SCIAC play after a Monday night 2-1 win over La Verne at Pritzlaff Field. The Stags pushed the pace of the game and scored twice in the first half, one by freshman Jacques Bialostozky and a penalty kick from senior Jaison Kimura.

It was clear in the first few minutes of play that CMS needed to generate their own momentum. The Stags came out strong and scored in the 12th minute. Bialostozky took a few quick touches and outsmarted the keeper to score the first goal.

A few short minutes later, CMS keeper sophomore Alex Choi was in a one-on-one situation and had a well executed kick save to defend an otherwise certain goal from Saul Uribe for the Leopards.

Late in the first half a La Verne player earned a yellow card giving CMS a penalty kick opportunity. Kimura converted it to increase the Stags' lead to 2-0 going into halftime.

During the much more physical second half, CMS could not put another one in but played shut down defense to secure the win. La Verne scored on a direct kick by Uribe in the last ten minutes to make the score 2-1. Uribe led the Leos with five shots, four on goal.

For the Stags, freshman Taylor Lemmon had a game-high three shots, two of which were well placed headers with great potential. CMS (2-0-1) outshot La Verne (4-2-1) 19-10 and came away with the win.

The Stags travel to Chapman (2-1) this Saturday, Sept. 20 to play the Panthers at 7 p.m.
