CLAREMONT, Calif. – In head coach Dan Calichman's final game at the helm of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer program, CMS pulled out a 2-1 double overtime win over visiting Cal Lutheran in SCIAC play on Sept. 13 at Pritzlaff Field.

Sophomore forward Ian Shelton scored the game-winner off of an assist from junior forward Taylor Lemmon in the second overtime to get the win for CMS as the team improved to 1-0-1 on the season. The goal came in the 103rd minute when Lemmon broke down the right wing, drew the defense along with Cal Lutheran's goalie, then dropped the ball off to Shelton right in front of the net for the score.

In the first overtime, CMS goalie Alex Choi had a key save in the 95th minute to help preserve the 1-1 score and eventually send the match to a second overtime.

CMS outplayed Cal Lutheran offensively in the match, outshooting Cal Lutheran 15-7 in the game.

In the first half, CMS scored the first goal of the match when sophomore midfielder William Cresap scored in the 36th minute off an assist from freshman forward Michael Wagenveld. Then in the second half, Cal Lutheran's Gabe Naudin scored the equalizer in the 64th minute to make the score 1-1.

Calichman stepped down from his head coaching position at CMS after 12-plus seasons to take an assistant coaching position with Toronto FC of Major League Soccer. He starts in his new position on Sept. 15. Sam Ullman now takes over the interim head coaching duties for CMS with Calichman's departure.

CMS is back in action on Sept. 15 at home against La Verne at 7 p.m.
