Stags Triumph in 3-2 OT Win Over Chapman

 

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team won 3-2 against Chapman University in 2OT. The Stags scored the winning goal with one minute remaining in the second overtime period.

Chapman started the game with two quick and unanswered goals in the first 15 minutes. CMS responded in the 18th minute with a goal of their own scored by sophomore M Salar Hajimirsadeghi, assisted by freshman M Alex Censullo. The Stags had chances to tie the game during the first half but Chapman's keeper recorded four saves and the score remained 2-1 at the end of the first half.

CMS tied it up when sophomore M Hogan Marhoefer buried a shot in the net, assisted by freshman M Michael Crowley.  The score was tied 2-2 at the end of regulation time.

After a scoreless first period of overtime play, the tie was finally broken with a minute left in the second overtime period.  Senior F Ethan Hallberg converted a perfectly placed corner kick by Crowley for a spectacular header goal to end the game.

CMS totaled 17 shots during the game to Chapman's ten.

The Stags host Occidental this Saturday 9/21 at 1pm.
