Double OT Goal Gives CMS 2-1 SCIAC-Opener Win At Pomona-Pitzer

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Down 1-0 in its conference opener, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team came back to defeat Pomona-Pitzer 2-1 in double overtime on Wednesday afternoon as freshman forward Ian Shelton came through with the game-winner. CMS is now 2-2 on the season, 1-0 in SCIAC play.

Shelton's goal – the first of his career – came in the 106th minute off of an assist from sophomore forward Hogan Marhoefer. The match began with CMS down 1-0 as Pomona-Pitzer (1-4, 0-2) scored in the 14th minute on a goal by Voja Maric. The CMS defense then shut down Pomona-Pitzer for the final 76 minutes of regulation and 15 minutes of extra time as Stag freshman goalie Alex Choi had seven saves in the win.

CMS evened the score up at 1-1 in the first half in the 41st minute on an unassisted goal by junior defender Jaison Kimura. So far in four matches this season, the Stags have scored five goals by five different players.

Both teams attempted 15 shots in the closely-contested match.

Next up for CMS is a match at Cal Lutheran on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. CMS plays its first home match of the season on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. against Chapman.
