Michael Ma Ties for Third at SCIAC No. 2, Stags Finish Fifth

POMONA, Calif. - Michael Ma shot even par over two rounds at the second SCIAC regular season golf tournament to finish in a tie for third place, while the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team ended up in fifth in a closely-contested battle, at the Mountain Meadows Golf Course on Saturday and Sunday.

Ma shot a 67 in the first round on Saturday to enter the day at -3, and held onto a lead into the back nine after back-to-back birdies on No. 7 and No. 8, before ending up just two shots behind the individual medalist. 

As a team, CMS was fifth with a 579, with Redlands finishing 11 shots ahead in first with a 568. Chapman (571), Pomona-Pitzer (572) and Cal Lutheran (575) all edged out CMS, while La Verne was close behind with a 583. 

Jamison Tan was the second Stag on the leaderboard with a +4, finishing tied for 13th, while Kevin Jiang earned a top-20 with a tie for 19th. 

CMS will be back in action in three weeks for the SCIAC Championships, which will be held at Los Serranos in Chino Hills from April 28-30.
