HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - Will Parker shot a 68, the lowest round for anyone in the field over the first three days, and Mason Chiu added a 69 as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team surged on the back nine to get back into contention for the NCAA Division III Championship, standing in fourth place heading into tomorrow's final round, 13 shots off the lead.

Methodist stands in first place at +13 after three rounds, while Hampden-Sydney (+25), Huntingdon (+25) and CMS (+26) are clustered together in the No. 2-4 spots, with Carnegie Mellon fifth at +31. 

CMS shot 288 (E) as a team, which tied Carnegie Mellon's opening round 288 for the lowest team score in any round of the tournament to this point. Parker is the only player to shoot a 68 on any of the three days, while Chiu is one of only six who have shot a 69. 

Parker moved up 15 spots with his 68 and now stands tied for fifth place on the individual leaderboard at +1, three shots behind Andre Chi of Methodist in the race for the individual national title. Chiu was the big mover of the day, jumping up 36 spots into a tie for 25th at +9 through three rounds.  

The Stags appeared to be fading from contention approaching the turn, at one point standing at +8 on the day and +34 for the tournament, with Methodist 24 strokes ahead. However, CMS shot a -7 on the back nine collectively, with Chiu getting five birdies for a -4 on the back nine, Yuefeng (Michael) Ma tallying three birdies and an eagle for a -2, and Parker adding four birdies for a -1. 

Parker kept CMS in it on the front nine, tallying three birdies to hit the turn at -3. Chiu birdied the ninth to move to +1, beginning a stretch of six birdies on his final 10 holes that saw him finish -3. Ma picked up birdies on the 16th and 18th to knock two more strokes off the team score. 

The final round will get underway tomorrow morning, as CMS will try to put pressure on Methodist and earn its second national title in program history, joining the 2016 team.
