Mason Chiu Earns Individual Medalist Honors Sunday, Takes SCIAC Athlete of the Week Honor Monday

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior Mason Chiu, the 2019 SCIAC Men's Golfer of the Year, added another honor to his collection when he captured the SCIAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Week honor for events through Sunday, Feb. 27, the league office announced on Monday.

Chiu earned individual medalist honors to help CMS to the team championship at SCIAC #1, shooting an even par in tough conditions on Saturday and then a -2 on Sunday to finish the tournament at -2, the only player in the red. CMS led by four after the first day, but then ran away with a 17-shot win with a strong second-round effort.

In 2019, Chiu finished in first place by seven strokes with a -5 at the SCIAC Championships, including a 7-under 63 on his first round. He then came in 11th place at the NCAA Division III Championships, but did not compete in an abbreviated 2019-20 season and then lost the 2020-21 season due to COVID, but has returned to form in the early part of the 2021-22 campaign.

The Stags have now won three of the four events they have entered this season, and will next compete at the Cal Lutheran Kingsman Invitational in two weeks.
