PRESCOTT, Ariz. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team shot an even-par 284 in both rounds to take over the lead after the first day of the Embry Riddle Co-Ed Invitational on Monday at Antelope Hills North Golf Course.

CMS was three shots behind Arizona Christian, which came in at 3-under after the opening round, but moved seven shots in front after ACU shot +10 in the second round while the Stags came in at even par for the second time. Embry Riddle is in third place at +15, while Redlands is in fourth place at +24.

Seniors Austin Long and Harrison Brenner continued their strong final seasons with the Stags, with each standing in the top five out of 48 golfers after 36 holes, along with first-year Edward Wu. Brenner shot even par in his first round and then had a three-under 68 in the second round to stand tied for second at -3, six shots behind Bill Rosenthal of Arizona Christian (67-66-133) at -9.

Long came in at -1 in his first round with a 70, before standing at even par after the second round with a 142. Lu shot even par in both rounds to match Long with a 142, which ties them for fourth place in the field after the first day.

Two first-years playing in their first collegiate event also gave the Stags a boost. Zach Torrey had a 72 in the opening round to earn one of the four scoring spots in his first round, while Will Parker had a 73 in the second round to help CMS come up with its second straight even par.

The second and final round of the Embry Riddle Co-Ed Invitational will get underway tomorrow morning, which will be the final round of the fall season for the Stags. CMS will try to sweep both of its fall tournaments after winning the Redlands Invitational two weeks ago with a -17, finishing 21 shots ahead of the second-place finisher.
