CMS Men's Golf Opens Season with Blistering -6 Over 36 Holes at Bulldog Invitational

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team, ranked No. 8 in preseason by the Golf Coaches Association of America, got off to a torrid start to the 2019-20 season by shooting six-under par as a team over 36 holes for the first two rounds of the Bulldog Invitational, hosted by Redlands University at the S Club.

CMS heads into tomorrow's final round with a 12-shot lead over host Redlands and a 19 shot lead over third-place Vanguard. The Stags shot a 284 (-4) on the first round and followed up with a 286 (-2) to end up in the red for two straight rounds as a team.

The Stags did it with team balance, as six players rank in the top 14 on the individual leaderboard heading into tomorrow. Senior Harrison Brenner is tied for third after shooting a 70-72-142 (-2) over the first two rounds, with his -2 having him one shot off the lead after the first round.

Brenner is followed closely by first-year Edward Wu and junior Ken Kong, who are each tied for sixth place at one-under after two rounds. Wu shot a -1 on his second round after a par in the first round, while Kong did the same thing in reverse order, starting out with a -1 and shooting even par on his second round.

Senior Austin Long stands in 11th place after two rounds at +1, shooting a 71 (-1) on the second round of the day. He is tied with first-year Vikram Chatterjee, who opened with a 71 (-1) for his first collegiate round before a 74 in the second round.

The second day of the Bulldog Invitational gets underway tomorrow at 7 a.m. as the Stags will try to open their 2019-20 season with a team tournament win.
