CMS Men's Golf Ends In 11th Place after Three-Day Collegiate Invitational

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team finished in a three-way tie for 11th place in a very competitive 30-team field at the Collegiate Invitational, held at the Jekyll Island Golf Club's Pine Lakes Course from Friday-Sunday.

CMS shot a 299 on Sunday's final round to tie with Berry College and Hampden-Sydney with a three-day 887 (+23). Emory, the No. 1 ranked team in Division III, capped off an impressive performance by finishing at six-under for the tournament, including a -2 on Sunday (286). Huntingdon College, ranked No. 2 in Division III was also below par at -3 for the weekend, while No. 3 Illinois Wesleyan finished at even par (864). 

The top individual finisher for CMS was senior Alex Wrenn, who was even par on Sunday to finish with a 219 (+3) for the tournament to tie for 29th place (out of 150). Sophomore Ken Kong was second on the Stags at +4, shooting a one-over 73 on Sunday, finishing in a tie for 33rd. 

Wrenn had four birdies during his round on Sunday, giving him a total of 14 birdies over the three-day tournament, including seven on Friday's round. His last birdie came on the 18th to give him an even-par finish on the day. Kong had two birdies, including on No. 15 before closing with three straight pars. 

Sophomore Mason Chiu and freshman Alex Yun were also in the top half of the field, tying for 62nd with  a +10 over the three rounds. 

CMS will be back in action next weekend for the West Cup, which will be held over three days from March 24-26 at Sierra La Verne Country Club.
