CMS Men's Golf in 12th (of 30) After Second Round of Collegiate Invitational

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team stands in 12th place after the second day of the Collegiate Invitational at the Pine Lakes Course at Jekyll Island Golf Club.

CMS improved by four shots from its opening round on Friday, shooting a 292 collectively to stand at +12 after two rounds, but still slipped two spots in the team standings as Methodist and Sewanee each shot 289s to move into a tie for sixth at +10.

The Stags are only four shots behind fifth-place Carnegie Mellon in a heavy cluster in the team leaderboard, but Emory (-4), Illinois Wesleyan (-1) and Huntingdon (-1) have separated themselves from the pack by moving their team scores under par.

Individually, CMS has four players all tied at +3 after two rounds, placing them tied for 38th on the individual leaderboard. Junior Harrison Brenner, senior Alex Wrenn, sophomore Ken Kong and freshman Alex Yun all stand at 147 after two rounds.

Kong had the best round on Saturday, coming in with an even-par 72. He responded well after suffering a triple bogey on his second hole of the day (No. 11), and had four birdies, including on his 16th and 18th holes (No. 7 and 9) to close strong. Brenner double-bogeyed that same No. 11 hole, but then birdied No. 12, No. 15 and No. 17 to take the turn at -1, before finishing with a 73 (+1).

Yun had a consistent round with 15 pars, one birdie and two bogeys to shoot a 73, while Wrenn had three more birdies to give him 10 at the tournament, before finishing with a 74.

The final round of the Collegiate Invitational takes place tomorrow, as CMS will try to make a charge up the team standings on day three.
