CMS Men's Golf Ends Up Third after First SCIAC Regular Season Tournament

CHINO HILLS, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team ended up in third place out of eight teams after the two-day SCIAC #1 regular season tournament on Saturday and Sunday on the Los Serranos North Golf Course in Chino Hills.

Redlands ended up the winner of the two-day event with a team score of -1 (575), with La Verne second at +4. CMS was third at +12 after the weekend, before scores carry over to SCIAC #2 in April and then to the SCIAC Championships at the end of the month.

Senior Alex Wrenn shot one-under on Sunday with a 71 to move up to fifth place in the final individual standings. Jake Hollander and Cameron Cooper of Redlands, and Pitiluk Phanomchai of La Verne all tied for first at -2, with Phanomchai carding a 67 on Sunday for the low round of the weekend.

Sophomore Mason Chiu was one shot behind Wrenn in a tie for sixth at +2 with his second straight 73 of the weekend. Sophomore Ken Kong was tied for 12th at +4, and freshman Alex Yun was tied for 16th at +5.

Wrenn closed strong, shooting a two-under 34 on the back nine, thanks to consecutive birdies on the 14th and 15th holes, giving him five birdies on his round. Chiu was steady on his round, with 13 pars, to go along with two birdies to end up with a plus-one.

The Stags will be back in action on March 15-17, when they travel to Georgia to compete in the Collegiate Invitational at Palm Lakes Golf Club on Jekyll Island.
