Alex Wrenn's 64 Highlights First Day of Embry-Riddle Invitational for CMS Men's Golf

PRESCOTT, Ariz. - Senior Alex Wrenn shot a 7-under par 64 on his second round of the day to help the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team to a second-place standing after the first day of the Embry-Riddle Co-Ed Invitational on Monday at the Antelope Hills North Course.

After 36 holes, the Stags currently stand in second place with a four-over 572, seven shots behind Ottawa University (Arizona) with a 565, and 16 shots ahead of Redlands in third place in the seven-team field. Arizona Christian (+26), Benedictine (+32), Embry-Riddle (+33) and Whittier (+55) are in the 4-7 spots, respectively. 

Wrenn shot a +6 on his first round of the day, but then regrouped in warmer afternoon conditions to shoot a 64 on his second round to jump from a tie for 30th into fourth place at -1 through 36. He began his round with three straight birdies, and after his only bogey of the round on the sixth hole, he bounced back with birdies on 7 and 8 to hit the turn with a 31 (five-under). He added seven pars on the back nine, while birdieing the 12th hole and then capping off his round with a four on the par-five 17th to finish with a 64. 

Freshman Alex Yun also had a strong second round, shooting a four-under 67 to move into a tie for second place on the individual leaderboard at -3. Yun was even par through the first nine of his second round, but then caught fire on the back nine, with birdies on 11, 12, 17 and 18 to card a 67. Fellow freshman Rishi Bhat is fifth on the individual leaderboard after shooting a 72 on his first 18 holes and following up with a 70 on his second round. 

Ottawa has the top two players on the individual leaderboard with Noah Hoffman sitting at -6 after shooting a 69 and a 67 on Monday, while Carter Lewis is in a tie for second with Yun after a 68-71-139. 

The final round of the Embry-Riddle Invitational will take place tomorrow morning at Antelope Hills.
