Ken Kong Shoots a 66 to Lead CMS Men's Golf to Dual Win over Chapman

CHINO HILLS, Calif. - Sophomore Ken Kong shot a six-under 66, including birdies on each of the last five holes, to lead the CMS men's golf team to a dual win over Chapman on Friday afternoon at Los Serranos North Golf Course in Chino Hills.

The Stags, who came into the match ranked eighth in the nation in Division III, finished with a +1 (289) as a team, winning the dual by 17 shots over Chapman, which finished with a +18 (306). CMS also won its first competition, the Cal State Intercollegiate, by 14 shots over Texas-Tyler 10 days ago.

Kong was the story of the day, as he was one of two players to finish with a sub-par round, along with teammate Jin Kim (who was playing as an individual). He started with three birdies in the first five holes, then came back to the pack a little in the middle of his round, with a bogey on the 13th dropping him to -1.

However, he bounced back and caught fire down the stretch, birdieing the par-5 14th to start a run of five straight, capped off with a three on the par-4 18th to finish at -6.

Alex Yun and Mason Chiu finished with 74s on the day (+2), with Alex Wrenn, Austin Long, and Rishi Bhat each a shot behind with 75s. Bhat birdied the 18th as well, while Long picked up birdies on 13, 14 and 16 before closing with pars on 17 and 18. Griffin Tso led Chapman with a +1

CMS is back in action on Oct. 7-9 when it travels to Prescott, Arizona for the Embry-Riddle Invitational, held at Antelope Hills.
