Stage is set for exciting third round at SCIAC Championships

BEAUMONT, Calif. – Through the first two rounds at the SCIAC Men's Golf Championships and tough conditions on April 25, four strokes separate the top four teams and the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team sits in fourth place (593: 17-over par). Cal Lutheran (590) is in first at the three-round conference championship tournament at Oak Valley Golf Course, followed by Redlands (591) and Occidental (592). Tuesday for the final round, teams again tee-off with split times beginning at 7:30 a.m. though the men will start at hole one and the women will tee up on hole 10. 

In the overall race for the conference championship, CMS is back in first (1,807), followed by Cal Lutheran (1,812) and Redlands (1,816). The team with the lowest score through all seven rounds in conference tournament play is crowned conference champion.

Freshman Alex Wrenn (CMC) and senior Kethan Reddy (CMC) broke into the top-10 in the individual standings. Wrenn is in fifth after the second round, 10 spots higher than Sunday, after posting a 1-under par 71 in the second round. Through two rounds, Wrenn is 2-over par (146). Two strokes behind Wrenn and in a tie for seventh is Reddy (4-over par – 148).

Sophomores Jonathan Shaw (CMC) and Matt Shuman (CMC) are tied for 13th (6-over par – 150). Sophomore Jackson Zepf (CMC) moved up eight spots to 26th (12-over par – 156) and sophomore Johnny Brandt (CMC) is in 38th.
