Strong day for Reddy in NCAA Championships, Stags at No. 15

GREENSBORO, N.C. – After struggling on the West Course on the second day of the NCAA Championships at Grandover Resort, junior Kethan Reddy (CMC) found his groove back on the East Course with four birdies for a two-under 70 on the day. After making the cut the previous day, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps golf team is in the top 15 teams of the 41 that started the tournament on Tuesday.

All-SCIAC selection freshman Jonathan Shaw (CMC) also put together a good day on the course, additionally recording four birdies to shoot a 71. Freshman Matt Shuman (CMC), who had previously been in fourth place overall, came up against holes 9 and 10 that proved difficult for most of the Stags. Shuman finished the day 10-over and is tied with Shaw for 37th place.

Freshmen Johnny Brandt (CMC) and Jackson Zepf (CMC) shot 83 and 86 respectively. Brandt had a dynamite birdie on the par four, 11th hole.

Fellow SCIAC programs dropped in the standings today as well. As a team, Redlands was just six over par through the first 36 holes and then was 14 over today, landing them in fifth place, now seven strokes out of the lead. La Verne shot very similarly to CMS, lowering them just one place, to 12th overall.

For the final day of the Championships, the Stags pair up with players from St. John Fisher and Spaulding for an 8 a.m. start. The tournament can be followed via live scoring and a live video webcast for the final round (May 15).
