Carter, Angle Sweep SCIAC Weekly Awards for CMS Men's Basketball

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Rhett Carter was named the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week, and Josh Angle earned the Defensive Player of the Week as Claremont-Mudd-Scripps swept both weekly honors, the league office announced this afternoon.

Carter and Angle helped key a 70-56 win over Occidental on Saturday in the only game of the week for the Stags. The victory was the team's eighth in a row, and improved its record to 10-1 overall and 4-0 in the SCIAC.

Carter was nearly perfect from the floor, shooting 7-8 from the floor, including three straight CMS baskets in the early going to help the Stags overcome a slow start. He raised his field goal percentage over 60 percent for the season (60.7) with his strong shooting performance.

Angle, meanwhile matched his career high with four steals and added a blocked shot and seven defensive rebounds to key a strong defensive effort as CMS held Occidental to under 60 points. He had three of his steals (and his block) in the second half as the Stags were able to pull away after a tight first half.

Angle, who was named the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week after a season-opening win over Puget Sound, joins TJ Askew among Stags who have won both the Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors this season. Matt Meredith also earned the SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week, giving CMS a total of six awards already this season.

CMS will be back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Cal Lutheran for a 7 p.m. contest, looking to extend its winning streak to nine games.
